Authorities at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) are probing the tragic death of final-year Biological Sciences student, Miss Joana Deladem Yabani, whose lifeless body was discovered near the KNUST Disability and Rehabilitation Centre at dawn on February 27, 2025.
In a major development, police have arrested 21-year-old Daniel Tuffuor, reportedly her boyfriend, in connection with the case. The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, confirmed that security footage was instrumental in identifying and apprehending the suspect.
“We have identified the suspect through CCTV footage on the KNUST campus, and he is currently assisting us with our investigations,” DCOP Cudjoe stated.
In response to growing security concerns, the police have intensified surveillance across the university.
“We are stepping up our efforts to maintain security on campus. Our officers will be conducting round-the-clock patrols and monitoring activities,” DCOP Cudjoe assured.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare) has personally engaged the KNUST Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, to reaffirm police commitment to student safety.
Expressing deep sorrow over the tragic incident, the Vice-Chancellor extended her gratitude to law enforcement.
“Waking up to such horrible news was truly saddening, and losing a student in this manner is heartbreaking, especially for parents. We are grateful to the IGP for his swift intervention and the measures that have been put in place,” she stated.
