“It would sort of harm the new franchise”: ‘Suits LA’ Is Bringing Back Harvey Specter, but Creator Knows It’s Bad News for Stephen Amell

Suits LA has been highly anticipated since its announcement. Piggybacking off the story of the original series, it is set in a completely new setting with completely new characters. While the series has just begun its run, the one thing it cannot seem to outrun is the shadow of the original show.

While fans are certainly interested in the new storyline that the series will bring forth, they cannot seem to get the idea of Harvey Specter coming back out of their minds, even though it has already been announced.

With this, the creator of both projects has spoken about the possibility of more of the original cast making appearances in the spin-off series, and his perspective makes sense.

Aaron Korsh does not want to bring back more characters from Suits

Fans are well aware of the fact that Harvey Specter is coming back in the spin-off series of Suits. However, they cannot help but long for more, wanting to see more of the beloved characters from the original show. So much so, that their want for more seems to overshadow the actual story that Suits LA is trying to follow.

With this in mind, the creator of both shows, Aaron Korsh, gave an interview with TVLine, where he dropped quite the bomb on fans. He revealed that Harvey isn’t the only character coming back, confirming that one other actor is going to be there.

Harvey is not the only Suits original character that we’re going to see this season. There will be at least one other original Suits character. I’m not going to say at what level.

He then added that he wanted these returns to seem as organic as possible and did not want the new series to just consist of comebacks. Speaking along similar lines, he stated that he was very wary and careful about bringing back characters in the new show, even though he knows that fans desperately want that.

I know that’s what fans want, but I feel like if it’s just a parade of old Suits characters, it would sort of harm the new franchise, and I don’t think it would do a lot of favors to the old franchise either.

He explained his reasoning for this, mentioning that he did not want the flair of the past to overshadow the present. Not only would such storytelling hurt the new series, but it could also taint the ending and run of the original series.

Does Suits LA need more New York?

It is important to note that Suits was not cancelled, but it ended. The loose ends were neatly tied, and storylines were wrapped up as the perfect present for the fans. While the show did gain popularity years after its ending, it does not change the fact that the creators, writers, and actors have moved on from that chapter of their lives, even if fans didn’t.

Although one cannot blame them for wanting more of the original cast in the spin-off series, Aaron Korsh’s perspective also makes a lot of sense. After putting eight years of his life into a series, he is moving on to a different project, regardless of how similar or dissimilar it is to the original show.

If he kept bringing more of the cast onto the new project, the two would bleed into each other and become a blur of Greenback Boogie. Stephen Amell’s series would lose all of its originality and become yet another example of a show full of callbacks. While there are obvious reasons why Korsh wouldn’t want this, there is no denying that fans would also not be interested in a series like this.

With this in mind, it would be a better creative decision if the series stayed away from bringing back characters from the proverbial dead.

Suits and Suits LA is available for streaming on Netflix.
