PAYMENT PLAN (2.10 Newcastle, nap)

John Butler’s five-year-old should be hunting a hat-trick of wins but he lost his latest Wolverhampton win in the stewards’ room for nudging a rival. That was still an excellent effort and built nicely on two Southwell successes and a close-up third at Dunstall Park. The handicapper has been fair with a 2lb rise and he can strike again over his favourite two-mile trip.

PORT LIGHT (5.30 Chelmsford, nb)

He did very nicely as a juvenile late last year, winning on debut around Southwell before going down in a tight finish over today’s trip and track. He stays at novice level and can give Hollie Doyle (right) yet another winner for excellent trainer Archie Watson.

BLUE CARPET (4.45 Taunton, treble)

He has caught the eye on both runs since joining the Skeltons. He comes from a family that has enjoyed plenty of success across the Channel and kicked off with a win at Carlisle before going well again at Newcastle. He travels strongly and looks set for another win.

BLACKCURRENT (4.30 Newcastle, Lucky 15)

He’s overdue a win but his turn looked close when beaten in a head-bobber here earlier this month. This trip suits and he can figure in what looks a slightly weaker race.
