“A reflection of the society we currently live in”: Sami Zayn Is Right About Why Triple H Has Let Go of Vince McMahon’s WWE Storylines

WWE has been thriving under a completely new era that dawned at the beginning of 2024. The new power shift saw the exit of former WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon, after he sold the company to Endeavour Group and found himself caught in the s*x trafficking lawsuit by former company employee, Janel Grant.

This led to his son-in-law and top WWE star, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, assuming the reins of the corporate regime as Chief Content Officer alongside WWE CEO and President Nick Khan. The new regime has done makeshift changes in their approach, different from that of Vince McMahon, that has led to high backstage morale, much more successful shows and business metrics.

A prominent change that has also been brought about has been the way WWE handles political situations in regard to TV storylines and their stars. This notable difference was pointed out by current WWE RAW superstar Sami Zayn ahead of the Elimination Chamber PLE.

How does Triple H’s WWE regime handle political situations, as revealed by Sami Zayn?

In a recent media call before WWE’s next Premium Live Event, Sami Zayn discussed the current regime’s approach to political matters, led by Triple H, compared to the old regime led by Vince McMahon. His response highlighted a significant difference in their opinions and approaches.

Zayn stated that it is very different from the past, when political events like the Persian Gulf War and the Iraq War were referenced through WWE characters and storylines. Some names included WWE legends like Sgt. Slaughter and Nikolai Volkoff.

So, you know, in the ’90s, during the Persian Gulf War, we had Sergeant Slaughter with the Iraq stuff. Even prior to that, in the ’50s, we had Nazi villains and stuff like that. Japanese, whoever the villains were in the political climate, were reflected in the world of pro wrestling.

Sami Zayn further added that the current WWE management does not touch base with politics anymore, and the product itself does not reflect that. Moreover, the Underdog from the Underground concluded that the company’s new approach under Triple H‘s leadership reflects the society we live in today.

Now, I think in a strange way, we’re doing a sort of weird anti-reflection reflection. Wherein we just simply don’t touch politics anymore. As a company, nothing about the political climate is reflected in the product. I think, in some ways, that’s also a reflection of the society we currently live in and the sensitivity to these things.

Apart from the political angle, Sami Zayn himself has thrived as a prominent star under the leadership of Triple H in WWE. He had a remarkable 2024 and is looking to claim a top spot at WrestleMania 41 after his Unsanctioned match with Kevin Owens at the Elimination Chamber event.

The WWE Elimination Chamber 2025 event is only days away from invading the Rogers Center in Toronto, Canada. The company has planned a star-studded line-up for the same show, where Brock Lesnar nearly survived a nasty fall years ago, and plans to make it a huge hit.

The Stamford-based promotion has announced top stars like John Cena, The Rock, Cody Rhodes, and CM Punk for the show. Moreover, Triple H made a huge announcement via his X days before the show that popular American rapper Travis Scott will be in attendance.

The rap artist has become a top fixture for WWE in recent memory with his songs, ‘4*4 and “FEID” being the official theme songs for Monday Night RAW on Netflix and WrestleMania 41. The level of excitement is high, so the fans can expect a stellar show in Canada this weekend, now that Scott is also making his way to the show.
