The old McDonald’s Happy Meal toys that can fetch you up to £75 online – so have you got any hidden away?

MCDONALD’S Happy Meals have been a favourite among children since they were first released in 1979.

The meal deals come in a box, and feature a smaller version of their burgers or chicken nuggets, alongside chips and a drink.

But the most exciting part of a Happy Meal for the majority of kids is the toy that comes inside.

The toy ranges usually coincide with the release of a new movie or game, with recent ones including Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Mario Kart.

However, there are a few toys from older Happy Meals that are fetching a mint online – so do you have any hidden away somewhere?

The 2008 Lego Batman range – to promote the release of the video game – is a popular search on sites including eBay and Vinted, and a recent Batman sold for a whopping £75 online.

The range included eight figures – Batman, Robin, Joker in the Box, Mr Freeze, Batman boat, Batmobile, Penguin Boat and Joker Helicopter.

“You’d be surprised at the demand for some items, like old McDonald’s Happy Meal toys,” Gabriele Asaro, Head of Research at Cases.gg commented on the findings.

“As they get older, they become rarer and harder to come by, and nostalgia is a very powerful indicator of price.

“So to be sure of the value, do your research for the items you find in your loft, cupboards, and boxes of old things.

“You might be sitting on a fortune without even knowing it!”

People have taken to Reddit to comment on the popularity of the LEGO Batman Happy Meal toys, with one writing: “Damnnn this takes me back!

“Somewhere I have Joker’s Helicopter and Mr Freeze from the Happy Meals.”

“I had one,” another said.

“I still have it in an old toy chest somewhere.

“I had the Batman one, and could never pinpoint where I got it and when.

“But if it was 08 then I was 3…”

“I have the Batman!” a third added excitedly.

How to save at McDonald’s

You could end up being charged more for a McDonald’s meal based solely on the McDonald’s restaurant you choose.

Research by The Sun found a Big Mac meal can be up to 30% cheaper at restaurants just two miles apart from each other.

You can pick up a Big Mac and fries for just £2.99 at any time by filling in a feedback survey found on McDonald’s receipts.

The receipt should come with a 12-digit code which you can enter into the Food for Thought website alongside your submitted survey.

You’ll then receive a five-digit code which is your voucher for the £2.99 offer.

There are some deals and offers you can only get if you have the My McDonald’s app, so it’s worth signing up to get money off your meals.

The MyMcDonald’s app can be downloaded on iPhone and Android phones and is quick to set up.

You can also bag freebies and discounts on your birthday if you’re a My McDonald’s app user.

The chain has recently sent out reminders to app users to fill out their birthday details – otherwise they could miss out on birthday treats.

It’s also good news if you have anything from the 2004 Sonic Happy Meal range, as one recently sold for £60 online.

Even the more common ones are selling for around £18 each.
