Princess Kate joins Prince William on visit to Welsh market for 1st major ‘away day’ in her return to work after cancer

KATE has joined Wills on a visit to a Welsh market for her first major “away day” in her return to work after cancer.

The couple – who shared a video on Instagram of them walking through the station in Cardiff – are supporting those hit by devastating storms.

They will also learn how to make Welsh cakes.

The Waleses are set to head to Pontypridd market, in South Wales, and chat with stallholders including butchers, greengrocers, toy stores, book shops and textile firms.

During a tour of the food hall they will visit the Welsh Cake Shop which has served the tasty snacks to locals for more than 25 years.

It is also well known for its Bara Brith, a traditional Welsh fruit bread, and delivers it across the UK.

They will make their own Welsh Cakes before sitting with locals at Fountain Cafe to hear about the devastation wreaked by December’s Storm Darragh.

The couple will take a break before heading to Pontypridd’s Meadow Street Community Garden and Woodland, which aims
to create a safe and welcoming place where the local community can come together and enjoy the benefits of nature.

The community garden was established in January 2021 and is a site that was overgrown and full of debris from flooding.

The space lets locals take part in gardening, woodwork and weaving and promotes the benefits of nature to wellbeing.

For World Cancer Day, Kate posted a photo taken of her by Prince Louis in woodland with the caption “Don’t forget to nurture all that which lies beyond the disease. C”

Large parts of the site were disrupted by the December flood and Storm Bert.

Locals in Pontypridd found their front gardens underwater and cars completely submerged on the street.

Persistent rainfall saw the River Taff burst its banks and cause chaos in the town.

Devastatingly this was the second time in four years the street has experienced major flooding.

The local community banded together and passed out food and drinks to the emergency workers.

An entire bridge under construction was washed away amid the disaster.

Kate’s appearance follows a Palace announcement regarding the royal’s “gradual” return to public duties from the New Year.

She has since made a number of appearances including meeting Holocaust survivors at an emotional memorial event, and visiting Tŷ Hafan’s hospice near Cardiff, where she spent time with children, families and staff.

It is also understood tours abroad are “not on the table”, despite Prince William last year saying they might “have some more trips lined up”.

Instead, Kate’s “primary focus” will be her Centre for Early Childhood and UK-based engagements.

The Princess of Wales will also support the Royal Family at events such as Buckingham Palace Garden Parties, Trooping the Colour, Royal Ascot and the Remembrance Day commemorations.
