The more anime is becoming mainstream the more we are getting to know so many famous celebrities who have been really into anime since childhood. What once was their obsession as a kid has turned out to be their career-defining inspiration! And it was only possible for the relentless hard work of the Japanese anime industry.

For instance, with this latest reveal, the community once again got reminded of how anime can affect any individual, of course, in a positive way.
During a press conference at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival (Feb 15, 2025), Robert Pattinson, the star of the upcoming film Mickey 17, claimed that he is a die-hard anime enthusiast, particularly when it comes to power creep anime! Here’s what he said when asked about his inspiration for his role in this movie.
Pattinson could relate Mickey 18’s character to several anime he has watched before

As Mickey 17 is just around the corner, Pattinson has been seen quite enthusiastic about it and has also recently opened up about his creative inspirations. He claimed that the anime he had previously watched had been a major help in his acting in Mickey 17 (later 18th).
Who could have expected that, out of everything, anime would be the one thing that directly influenced his performance?
I was definitely getting some references from anime. Just in the kind of discordant mood changes.
In fact, he didn’t just leave the topic at that, Pattinson got specific about how exactly anime influenced his portrayal of Mickey 18.
He said that he loves how anime characters can go from 0 to 100 in a split second; one who was calm a while ago becomes absolutely furious the next moment.
Especially for Mickey 18, where you just kind of go from zero to 100 incredibly quickly. I always really like that in anime when you just suddenly have someone entirely static, and suddenly they’re furious out of nowhere.
It’s that kind of emotional whiplash that Pattinson tried to capture in his performance. He admitted that he has always been a fan of this type of anime-style mood swings, and now we know how it inspired his acting choices!
How anime is becoming a hallmark of one’s inspiration

Although Pattinson didn’t get into specifics, like which animes exactly inspired him, it’s clear that this once-niche Japanese media has had a big impact on his performance in Mickey 17. With incidents, like this, it’s becoming more and more prominent how influential anime can actually be in one’s life!
This is just one of many examples of how anime can create waves not just within the community but in the overall entertainment industry.
So, it’s always refreshing to see someone of a high caliber like Pattinson embracing the anime fandom and using it as his inspiration. Now after knowing all this, we can’t wait to see Mickey 17 in theatres and spot those anime-inspired moments for ourselves!
Mickey 17 is expected to be released on March 7, 2025, in US theaters.
