Moment TV cameraman shoved by cop as sex pest officer met by chants of ‘beast’ by angry crowd

A SEX PEST cop was given a police escort from court amid chaotic scenes as he dodged jail for sexually harassing junior officers.

Disgraced Peter Fleming, 41, was flanked by officers as he fled the dock after being given community service for making vile remarks at women colleagues — including telling one she should “tie herself up and dress like a schoolgirl”.

He hid behind an umbrella as he left Greenock Sheriff Court to be met by an crowd of onlookers as a television cameraman was shoved by a uniformed policeman.

Fleming — who fought for the British army during the Iraq War — was placed on the sex offenders register after admitting subjecting three WPCs to “humiliating” comments.

Sheriff James Varney told him: “These were serious offences.

“It appears you deliberately chose these female officers to discuss your sexual preferences and discuss theirs’.

“You were a senior police officer and senior to those officers.

“You have appeared to minimise your actions in relation to these offences.

“You thought just because nobody said anything about your behaviour it didn’t affect them.

“That’s not true.

“The nature of your comments showed they were in no way whatsoever anything but sexual.

“Be under no illusion, I’m imposing this as a direct alternative to custody.

“If you breach it, I will send you straight to custody.”

Dad-of-two Fleming targeted three junior policewomen over two years while working as an officer at Rothesay station on Bute.

He was in uniform when a man used sexualised behaviour towards one woman PC.

Fleming shrugged off the incident and used it as an excuse to turn the conversation to sex when the cops got to a marked police car.

The court heard the victim was left feeling “intimidated” and “uncomfortable and awkward” and felt she had to “curl away from him” and lean against the wall of the motor.

A few days later he told her she should “tie herself up and dress like a schoolgirl” leaving her feeling “physically sick”.

Fleming, of Rothesay, was reported to the force’s professional standards department and other vile acts came to light.

Another officer told how he drove his police car to “secluded” spots and boasted he’d had sex there while on duty.

Fleming told the woman there were “locations where he could have sex with her” leaving her “awkward and embarrassed”.

A third victim told how the creep commented about her body while on shift.

Fleming — who served 17 years with the police and survived a tour of the Middle East — was suspended while a probe into his behaviour was carried out but has since resigned.

He was placed under social work supervision for two years and ordered to complete 160 hours of unpaid work within 12 months for the offences which took place on the Isle of Bute between 2021 and 2023.

The court heard Fleming’s wife is standing by him and he was backed by supporters on the public benches.

A woman and a man were told to leave after shouting at him as he sat emotionless in the dock.

Around 10 people gathered outside the courthouse and chanted at him as he left wearing a dark suit and tried to cover his face.

Fleming’s supporters tussled with the crowd and members of the Press as a uniformed policeman pushed a television cameraman as he filmed the escape to a waiting black van.

Defence lawyer Michael McKitrick told how his client had donated a kidney to a relative and claimed he was haunted by domestic violence and murder cases he worked on.

He said: “He’s dedicated his life to public service.

“He offers apologies to the victims.

“He’s deeply ashamed.”

Police Scotland has been approached for comment.
