“I get to write the movies, and you don’t”: Roberto Orci Told Star Trek Fans to “F— Off” While Dissing Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones In the Process

Writer and producer Roberto Orci has never been the one to hold back. The Star Trek and Transformers writer had a fiery personality, both on and off the screen—which often landed him in hot waters, turning him into an infamous personality. But that didn’t stop him from engaging with fans—which sometimes turned into full-blown internet brawls.

One such infamous moment happened during his 2013 meltdown on TrekMovie.com, where he told Star Trek fans to “f— off”, while bizarrely dragging Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones into the mix. It was classic Roberto Orci—bold, unfiltered, and unapologetic. Unfortunately, the man is no longer with us—Orci passed away on February 25.

Recalling Roberto Orci’s 2013 brawl with Star Trek fans

Back in 2013, when Star Trek Into Darkness was released in theaters, the movie witnessed a staggering box office success, collecting $467M worldwide. It even garnered significant praise and appreciation from long-term Star Trek fans. But then, surprisingly by the end of summer 2013, the film’s reputation sank to the bottom of the ocean.

Despite the box office success and positive reviews, Star Trek Into Darkness soon became a subject of backlash from longtime fans. Some felt the film focused too much on action rather than the deeper themes that made Star Trek legendary. Soon, the criticism went out of control and landed on TrekMovie.com, where fans published an article titled “Star Trek is broken”.

Now, as the article criticized Star Trek, and spoke on the supposed decline of the franchise, it did not sit well with the writer of the franchise Roberto Orci. This led him to post several messages underneath the article, calling it similar to “a child acting out against his parents” (via EW). Although Orci began by stating that he wasn’t angry with people’s rage, he later ended his comments by asking fans to “f— off”.

There is a reason why I get to write the movies, and you don’t. STID has infinitely more social commentary than Raiders [of the Lost Ark] in every Universe, and I say that with Harrison Ford being a friend.

You lose credibility big time when you don’t honestly engage with the F—ING WRITER OF THE MOVIE ASKING YOU AN HONEST QUESTION. You prove the cliche of s—y fans. And rude in the process. So, as Simon Pegg would say: F— OFF.

While backing Star Trek Into Darkness, Roberto Orci surprisingly dragged Harrison Ford’s Raiders of the Lost Ark into the discussion. Claiming how his movie had “infinitely more social commentary” than Ford’s film, Orci fueled the fire. Eventually, the writer lashed out calling them “s—y fans” and finally dropping the infamous “F— OFF”. But while this came out in a moment of rage, Orci later apologized for his comments via X.
