Have Spider-Man Quip At The Joker: 5 Interactions We Want From the Upcoming DC/Marvel Crossover

Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief CB Cebulski and DC Editor-in-Chief Marie Javins announced at ComicsPro that Marvel and DC are headed towards a crossover later in the year. Last year, the two companies teamed up to reprint DC vs. Marvel into an omnibus. The last crossover that the companies did saw the Avengers unite with the Justice League, almost twenty years ago.

Possibly being the biggest crossover in the modern superhero landscape, there are a plethora of characters that would be fun to see working together in the shared comic book space. There have been a lot of characters that have been introduced since the company last had a crossover, and a lot of characters have been reinvented since, so it would be interesting to see some of them interact.

Thor and New Gods

New Gods have been a staple of the DC Universe for a long time, being one of Jack Kirby’s most prized creations. While there might be some merit to having these characters crossover with The Eternals, who were a similar idea billed by Kirby during his time with Marvel, Thor, with his revamped roster might be primed to share the comics panels with The New Gods.

Having expanded the ranks of the Norse pantheon with the likes of Beta Ray Bill, Thor could bring his post-Gorr the Godbutcher sensibilities to The New Gods, and perhaps even get Beta Ray Bill involved in a fight with Darkseid.

Deadpool and Harley Quinn

The internet loved Deadpool and Harley Quinn. Together, there might not be many things that they have in common, but the fandom ships these two as if they go together like peanut butter and jelly.

DC even went so far as to create a love-sick parody of Deadpool (who is already a Deathstroke rip-off), called Red Tool, who has a failed romance with Harley Quinn. Having these two have their own little romantic arc, or even a platonic adventure might be something that fans would totally be into.

Wolverine and Wonder Woman

While there might not be a lot that is common between Wolverine and Wonder Woman, the latter’s recent comic runs have had a distinct X-Men vibe to them, Wolverine, a nigh immortal warrior who seems to have some trouble dying, and is tormented by his demons, might find a kindred ally in Diana, who could show him that there is a better way to be a warrior rather than simply taking the abuse that the world throws at him.

As a result, fans might also get to see the likes of Donna Troy team up with X-23, allowing for some witty banter and some very versatile action sequences.

Batman and Spider-Man

There has been a very popular internet joke that would absolutely love to see Batman and Spider-Man swap rogues galleries. While the likes of Joker and The Riddler like to see how much they can break the Bat and his serious demeanor, a lot of Spider-Man’s villains can be a little more sinister than what the Web-head is known for.

Not to say, they expect him to be alone more often than not. Having a comic where either decided to take on the other’s villains (in a team-up or a switch), Having Spider-Man be actually funnier than the Joker, or having Mysterio straight up getting shot by Jason Todd might be something that would interest fans immensely.

The Hulk and Green Lantern

If there is one thing that DC and Marvel crossovers do, is that they allow creators to play around with concepts and characters that would just go so well together. Here is the premise: A Red Ring finds its way to Earth, and The Hulk is now the Green Lantern Corp’s problem.

Giving the Hulk rampaging through the cosmos with the Lantern Corp and the Avengers at his heels might be something that fans might be very interested in. Other possible combinations of concepts and characters could be Carnage or a similarly antagonistic symbiote taking over some of the most notorious characters in DC comics, or someone like Brainiac becoming the herald of Galactus.
