Actor-turned-politician John Dumelo appeared before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on February 25, 2025, for his vetting as Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture-designate.
The session, while largely focused on policy and governance, also saw some lighthearted moments, particularly an exchange between Dumelo and Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Deputy Majority Leader.
During the vetting, Afenyo-Markin engaged Dumelo in a conversation about his language skills, revealing the MP’s multilingual abilities.
Question & Answer Session:
Afenyo-Markin: And quite interesting, you speak English, Fante (that I attest to because you speak Fante with me). You do Twi, Ga. Is your Ga 50-50 or 100%? Is it the Osu one, Gamashie, or the Kaneshie one?
John Dumelo: My Ga is 70/30. It’s the Okponglo one.
The light-hearted exchange drew laughter from the room, adding a personal touch to the otherwise formal proceedings.
Dumelo, is in his first term as an MP on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
