VOX 5: Artists Who Deserve A Grammy

There has been a lot of turmoil since the Grammy Awards.

Fans of Billie Eilish are upset after seeing her cry when she didn’t win the “Album of the Year” award. Beyoncé won the coveted title for her album “Cowboy Carter,” which had numerous Billboard 200 hits. The album, which focused on the history of Black culture in country music, was hugely successful. However, fans of Eilish think that she was not given due credit for her album “Hit Me Hard and Soft,” which contained “Birds of a Feather,” the most streamed song of the year on Spotify.  According to many of her fans, Eilish is among the gifted musicians who have had their Grammy Awards stolen. Here is a list of five other musicians who many think should have a Grammy but still don’t.

Nicki Minaj

Throughout her career, Nicki Minaj has established herself as one of the most legendary female rappers. Her numerous hits, remarkable flow, and undeniable talent have significantly influenced the rap industry. Notably, tracks such as “Super Bass,” which boasts over 950 million streams, and “Monster,” featuring one of her most memorable verses in hip-hop, exemplify her impact. In 2012, she faced disappointment when she lost the “Best New Artist” award to Bon Iver. Additionally, she missed winning “Best Rap Song” for “Barbie World” alongside Ice Spice, after mistakenly being named for the Title. Despite receiving 12 Grammy nominations without a win, her career remains impactful, as she famously stated, “no Grammy, still a GOAT, though,” in her collaboration “Slide Around” with Chance the Rapper.

Katy Perry

Katy Perry, a defining figure of the 2008-2013 music era, has received 13 Grammy nominations without securing one win. Her 2010 album “Teenage Dream” achieved remarkable success, surpassing over 8 billion streams on Spotify, with her hit “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F)” reaching an impressive almost 1.5 billion. Her music continues to resonate with audiences of all ages, with its melodies and upbeat tunes. Despite not winning any awards against a host of talented artists, her dedication and talent remain evident.

Tupac

From his message to his flow, Tupac Shakur is regarded as one of the most influential Black male rappers of all time, yet he has never received recognition for his work. After being shot in 1996 in Las Vegas, the late Rapper passed away. He released a number of hits while he was here, including “Changes,” “California Love,” and even “Dear Mama.” On Spotify, Tupac’s song “Changes” has received 600 million plays on Spotify. That demonstrates that his songs continue to have an impact on people even after his passing. Despite having six Grammy nominations, he has never won an award. Tupac received a nomination in 2023 for best music film. Unfortunately, Tupac did not win the award in 2023 despite being nominated for best music film. He was nominated for the FX five-part documentary series “Dear Mama.” He has always been a deserving artist, especially of a Grammy, but sadly we still see no changes.

Snoop Dogg

Similar to Tupac, Snoop Dogg is a significant rapper who never ceases to astound people by his lack of Grammy awards. “Drop It Like It’s Hot” and “Gin and Juice,” two of his best-known songs, are both nominated hits. One for “Best Rap Performance By A Duo Or Group” and Another for “Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance By A Duo Or Group.” His total of 16 nominations is a significant number when compared to other rappers. His songs were lively, popular, and still are today, with over 30 million monthly streams on Spotify. Regretfully, he came close but not close enough in his numerous nominations.

Sia

Since 2012, Sia has received nine nominations, but the singer-songwriter has yet to win a Grammy. Since the beginning of her career, the gifted vocalist has created music that is all-around distinctive, both in terms of style and music videos. In 2012, she received her first Grammy nomination for Best Rap/Song Collaboration with Flo Rida on the song “Wild Ones,” which is approaching 1 billion streams on Spotify. Additionally, “Chandelier,” her most well-known hit song, has received almost 2 billion Spotify plays. She has yet to receive the award in spite of all of her efforts throughout her career.

There are so many talented musicians who made their name with their amazing performances, songs, voices, and streams. Fans feel they have been denied their Grammy awards, but they still deserve the honor, much like Billie Eilish. There’s no denying that these musicians deserve recognition for their significant contributions to the music industry as a whole.
