Rachel Zegler Tracks Back on Original ‘Snow White’ Criticism After Angering Donald Trump Fans: “We’re not always going to have the same feelings”

As Rachel Zegler gears up for the release of Disney’s live-action remake of Snow White, she addressed the backlash she received following her statements about Donald Trump’s reelection. Zegler has come under fire many times over the past few years, especially due to the Latina actress’ casting as Snow White in the film.

Zegler’s strong statement about Trump’s second presidency after the election angered many MAGA supporters. Many supporters reportedly threatened to boycott Snow White and urged Disney to shelve the film altogether due to Zegler’s long message on social media. The actress has since apologized for the comments.

Rachel Zegler has been one of the most controversial young stars for the past few years and it all began with her casting as Snow White. The Latina actress’ selection was widely panned by a section of audiences, accusing Disney of race-swapping a traditionally White character. However, Zegler’s casting was justified by Snow White having a large Latino audience.

Zegler’s social media presence and statements were often controversial. She mentioned that the Disney remake would be updating the material for today’s generation and called the original story a bit dated, prompting huge backlash from fans. The pinnacle of the hate was Zegler’s statement about President Donald Trump after his re-election.

Zegler criticized the win and Trump’s supporters and went as far as quoting singer Ethel Cain’s words about wishing Trump and his supporters that they never know peace. While she deleted her post, the statements quickly went viral prompting widespread backlash. Zegler spoke to Vogue Mexico about the whole situation,

I interpret people’s feelings about this film as passion for it, and what an honor to be able to be a part of something that people are so passionate about. We’re not always going to have the same feelings as everyone around us and all we can do is give our best.

Trump fans boycotted the West Side Story star after her statement and they even urged Disney to shelve the project due to the intense amount of bad rep it has brought on itself (via The Daily Beast).

Donald Trump’s re-election last year was severely criticized by many celebrities at the time and his actions since then have only escalated these criticisms. While Trump fans celebrated his re-entry into the Oval Office, critics of the POTUS took to social media to rant about the upcoming four years, including Rachel Zegler.

Zegler’s scathing statements about Trump and his supporters went viral before she deleted them from her Instagram. She expressed her anger and frustration at the next four years being governed by the controversial President and fans of Trump accordingly boycotted the actress. Right-wing journalist Megyn Kelly also publicly called her a pig (via The Guardian).

Following the intense backlash, Zegler posted an apology for her statements but maintained that she had the right to express her opinion.

Hatred and anger have caused us to move further and further away from peace and understanding, and I am sorry I contributed to the negative discourse. This week has been emotional for so many of us, but I firmly believe that everyone has the right to their opinion, even when it differs from my own. I am committed to contributing positively towards a better tomorrow.

The upcoming film Snow White has faced constant criticism for its casting (Gal Gadot’s acting abilities have been in contention for quite some time) and the ‘woke-ification’ that has become a staple for Disney remakes.

Snow White is set to release in cinemas on March 21, 2025.
