Martin Amidu slams Mahama over NEIP staff suspension, calls for fair governance

Former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu has criticized President John Dramani Mahama over what he describes as a selective approach to governance.

In an open letter available to MyNewsGH, Amidu expressed concerns that Mahama’s “promise of a new beginning and reset of the politics of Ghana” could turn into an agenda that serves only partisan interests.

According to him, fairness in governance requires consistency in dealing with issues of employment and corruption, regardless of political affiliations.

“A looter is a looter no matter his political affiliation if the reset of Ghana must be taken to be an even-handed regeneration of our nation,” he wrote.

Amidu took issue with the recent suspension of employees at the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), arguing that it contradicts the government’s stance on due process.

He pointed out the irony of suspending NEIP workers “to adhere strictly to due process in regularizing staff employment” while allowing the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to operate with staff who allegedly have no proper appointment letters.

“It will be the height of grand deception and patent propaganda to suspend all the employees of NEIP… when the OSP, the flagship institution to fight corruption, is staffed with employees who hold no appointment letters in accordance with Article 195 (1) or (2) of the 1992 Constitution,” Amidu stated.

He further alleged that OSP staff have not undergone the necessary vetting procedures under the law, nor have they legally passed their probation.

The so-called existing OSP staff have also never been vetted… let alone to legally pass their probation and be confirmed,” he added.
