Arrowverse has always been leaps and bounds ahead of everyone when it comes to presenting inclusion and diversity on screen, especially in the superhero genre. In this, however, one of the most notable moments was when Greg Berlanti, who was the producer behind the show, brought forth an on-screen gay kiss. This sequence had a huge impact on the audience, as this was not that prevalent in television at the time.

So, actor Russell Tovey, who was in the scene alongside Wentworth Miller, thanked the producer for making the kiss happen, for a very special reason.
Russell Tovey detailed the impact his kiss with Wentworth Miller had on the public
Sometimes small cinematic moments turn out to have a major impact on fans and viewers alike. The same happened when actor Russell Tovey looked back at a notable moment that took place in the Arrowverse, sparking major conversations in the LGBTQ+ community.

This was none other than sharing an on-screen kiss with actor Wentworth Miller during the 2017 crossover event Crisis on Earth-X. In this particular episode, his character, Ray Terrill, shares a kiss with Miller’s character, Leo Snart, aka Citizen Cold. In this, Cold was the alternate version of the very popular villain Captain Cold.
This moment was also important because, at the time, gay kisses were quite rare in the superhero genre. This made the show, as well as the characters, stand out. But more than that, the scene had a major impact on the outside world as well, and during one interview, Tovey detailed how people reached out to him.
While speaking to Digital Spy, he shared that the reaction from fans was huge and added, “So many people reached out after it happened.” Fans all around the world contacted him to share just how much the sequence meant to them.
The actor further appreciated executive producer Greg Berlanti for making inclusion and diversity his top priority. He also added:
I think what [Arrowverse mastermind] Greg Berlanti does with all of those shows is, and they’re targeted mainly at young adults, kids, is that he’s made it so accessible and just real and what it is. And that’s really important because maybe I was the first one of that universe, but since then there’s been a lesbian and a trans character.
For the fans and viewers, the kiss was not just about two characters, but it made them feel seen and heard.
Russell Tovey adds kind words for Plainclothes co-star Tom Blyth

Russell Tovey has been a part of several projects and has established himself as a versatile actor. But apart from that, he also doesn’t shy away from praising his co-stars. He did the same during an interview with Variety and shared his admiration for his Plainclothes co-star Tom Blyth.
Tovey described the actor as talented and deeply committed, with a strong passion for the art of acting. In the same conversation, he added, “Instantly, I was just like, ‘This guy’s the real deal.’” He also added:
He’s full of stardust. He is so committed and so wonderful in the role and such a team player. I got there and everybody in the crew was in love with Tom. And I was like, ‘OK, hang on.’ So I turned the charm up and I was like, ‘You’re going to love me as well.’ [Laughs] We both sort of went out there being our most charming selves.
The two actors crossed paths while filming Plainclothes, and their British roots also helped them form a deep friendship, which in turn made their collaboration quite effortless.
