Ryan Reynolds has found himself in a bit of a pickle, but not as much as Blake Lively. The It Ends With Us controversy took an unexpected turn when Lively revealed that she had enlisted Reynolds’ (who had no official involvement in the movie) help in writing the rooftop scene.
While this initially seemed like a fun behind-the-scenes tidbit, it quickly spiraled into a bigger debate, dragging Reynolds into the mix. Since then, the couple has been facing backlash far more than just that.

Old clips have resurfaced, bringing to light moments where the couple was involved in some questionable remarks and situations. One example? A throwback to when Reynolds openly admitted that he wrote all of Deadpool’s dialogue in X-Men Origins: Wolverine during a writer’s strike.
Ryan Reynolds wrote all of Deadpool’s dialogue for this X-Men movie!
Ryan Reynolds’ first go as Deadpool was anything but ideal. What should have been a solid introduction to the fan-favorite anti-hero in X-Men Origins: Wolverine turned into well fans weren’t expecting. Instead of the Merc with a Mouth they know, audiences got a stitched-up, mute experiment!
Still, Reynolds’ charisma shone through, and fans knew he was born for the role. What many didn’t realize at the time was that he wasn’t just delivering lines, he had a bigger hand in shaping Deadpool than anyone expected. During a GQ interview,
It was during a writers’ strike, so all my dialogue in that movie I wrote, I mean, in the stage directions it just said, ‘Deadpool shows up, talks really fast, and makes a lot of jokes.’

Pulling a move like that was never exactly popular, people raised eyebrows back in the day, but now? The scrutiny is stronger than ever!
Why is it so controversial now?
The controversy now stems from a pattern that’s becoming harder to ignore. Blake Lively served as both lead actress and producer, it was Lively’s revelation at the premiere that raised eyebrows, as she credited her husband, Ryan Reynolds, with writing the film’s rooftop scene.
In an interview with E! News, Lively casually dropped the bomb,
The iconic rooftop scene, my husband actually wrote it. Nobody knows that but you now.
She went on to say that they always collaborate, with Reynolds playing a role in everything she does and vice versa. Meanwhile, the film’s screenwriter, Christy Hall, admitted to People magazine, that she had no idea Reynolds contributed to the final version, and neither did Baldoni!

Now, why is this blowing up? It adds to an ongoing narrative, one where Reynolds has a habit of inserting himself creatively, making it look severely unprofessional. Adding to that a resurfaced clip of Lively admitting to being more involved in projects than necessary and hiding hr intent of doing that, has only fueled the fire. Fans are thus starting to question just how deep their influence runs behind the scenes, and whether it was always welcome.
