A MAN, aged in his 70s, has been killed after being struck by a car on a busy road in Co Laois last night.
The collision took place at around 10:45pm on the N80 road at Crannagh in Stradbally, Co Laois last night.

The pedestrian was pronounced deceased a short time after the crash.
His body was removed to Midland Regional Hospital in Portlaoise and gardai confirmed that a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
The driver of the car, a woman aged in her 30s, was not injured in the crash.
The scene has been sealed off by gardai pending a technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators this morning.
The busy road is expected to remain closed for a number of hours.
Gardai said: “The N80 is closed due to a road traffic incident at Crannagh, Stradbally, Co Laois. Local diversions are in place. Road users are asked to take alternative routes if possible.”
Any persons who were in the area at the time of the crash have been urged to come forward and assist gardai in their investigation.
In a statement this morning, a Garda spokesperson said: “Garda are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the N80 at Crannagh, Stradbally, Co Laois between 10.30pm and 11pm yesterday, 23rd February 2025, are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardai.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Portlaoise Garda Station on 057 867 4100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
The incident follows a separate crash tragedy in the same county over the weekend.
Aaron Hussain, a five-year-old boy, was hit by a car in the Kilminchy area of Portlaoise at around 4.20pm on Saturday afternoon.
He was rushed to Portlaoise Regional Hospital, but pronounced dead a short time later.

The driver, a woman in her 40s, was not injured.
Garda Forensic Collision Investigators carried out a technical examination of the scene yesterday morning.
Officers have urged anyone with any information to come forward.
