Despite Kathy Bates being the icon that she is, from being an Oscar-winner to expressive Queen, she doesn’t have time for social media. Nope, she has no social media, and her own family actually prohibits her from joining one social media: Instagram.
While on the 2025 SAG Awards red carpet, Bates revealed to EOnline that her niece won’t allow her on the social media platform. She said, “I’m not allowed to be on Instagram, because my niece Linda says I’ll read five million great ones and one bad one, and I’ll fixate on the bad.” Hey, we totally get it, Instagram can be a rabbit hole, for both good and bad reasons.
The Matlock star didn’t go in-depth on any other reasons why she doesn’t have any social media, but we totally understand why her nieces are helping her out with it. But who are her nieces?
Well, Bates may not have children of her own, but she’s a proud auntie to her niece Linda, with whom she’s worked with for over 30 years. In fact, Linda has been a huge supporter, and was the one to convince her to join the 1998 film The Waterboy.
“I remember picking up this script, ‘The Waterboy,’ and I read the first 12 pages. It was really silly. It was a football movie, and I thought, ‘Eh,’ and I threw it in the trash,” she said to Vanity Fair, also revealing her niece told her to reconsider.
So it’s clear Linda always has her aunt’s back!
