Lydia Akanvariba, the Minister of State-designate for Public Sector Reforms, has committed to tackling persistent bureaucratic obstacles that hamper efficiency within the public sector.
During her appearance before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Monday, February 24, Akanvariba highlighted the importance of adopting innovative strategies to simplify administrative procedures and enhance service delivery.
She noted that successful reforms would require active collaboration with public servants to help them appreciate the need for change.
“Having worked in the public sector for nearly 27 years, I understand the mindset of some employees who believe in sticking to old ways, often saying ‘Me baa ha aky3’ or ‘MBA,’ meaning ‘I’ve been here for a long time.’ This creates bureaucratic hurdles,” she explained.
“To overcome this, it’s essential to clearly communicate reform goals and the reasons behind them to encourage acceptance and cooperation,” she added.
