One MCU Series is the Blueprint For Toyotarou To Explore the Dragon Ball Multiverse

The Dragon Ball universe has been expanded a lot since the time when Son Goku had a tail and a Nimbus cloud. The franchise has grown to embrace a lot of genres, action, and even complex concepts like time tavel and the multiverse (including parallel universes).

It can be said that the series has dabbled in alternate realities for years, and now there is a chance for this base to be utilized in the best way possible- through a What If…?– series like the one that Marvel has.

It has been entire generations since Dragon Ball first came out and fans have always been discussing ‘what if?’ theories without any consensus, this could be the golden opportunity to put some of the most burning questions to bed.

Dragon Ball franchise is large enough to consider ‘what ifs’

There are many things that could have gone wrong when the Z fighters were struggling against invaders to protect the Earth, or even the universe. What if Cell was not stopped? What if Goku never met Old man Kame? What if Goku had not hit his head and lost all of his Saiyan instincts.

The influence of the Future Trunks’ timeline has shown the fans how multiple possibilities could exist together in the same franchise (and be canon). Although a What If…?-series does not need to be canon, the veteran fans of Dragon Ball deserve to know how things could have ended differently.

With Dragon Ball Super introducing the existence of multiple universes and expanding the scope of the series, there is no better time than now for such a series.

But what if Toei Animation and Toyotarou fully committed to a What If…?-style anthology series? The possibilities are endless—broken fusions, impossible team-ups, and reality-shattering battles could redefine Dragon Ball storytelling in ways never seen before.

A new evolution for the legacy franchise

The series itself is rooted in fights and action, this means that there are a lot of lost and missed out fights due to the differences in territory or maybe even because of differing generations. The first wish that was shown in the Dragon Ball series was a humorous moment, but what if that did not happen?

Each episode could present a small part of a timeline were things went differently, for good or bad. Exploring how small changes could lead to massive divergences in the Dragon Ball world.

Toyotarou is a new generation author, he has had deep admiration when it comes to Toriyama, and now he has the opportunity to wonder what would have happened if his mentor had written things differently. Considering that the series has already explored alternate timelines in the manga, he could take things to the next level.

With Dragon Ball always looking for new ways to expand, be it to attract newer generations or to increase the power scaling of the opponents– so an anthology series like the Marvel’s could be the perfect evolution for the franchise. Not only would it be a new twist, it could invoke nostalgia and rewind time!

Dragon Ball Super and DAIMA are available for streaming on Crunchyroll.
